The advent of digital hearing aids, micro surgery and cochlear implantation in the 1980s has led to significant advances in teaching and mainstreaming DePaul students. Over 60 percent of our students now have cochlear implants.
In FY05-06, we greatly expanded our commitment to Early Intervention programs through new funding initiatives and partnerships with regional early intervention provider agencies, including Achieva, and The Alliance for Infants and Toddlers. DePaul also enhanced longstanding alliances with leading pediatric and research centers in southwestern Pennsylvania such as Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh Ear Associates, The Hearing Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Eye and Ear Institute.
