Collaboration between teachers and families is a key component of DePaul’s Early Intervention programs. Family participation and involvement are encouraged and fostered in all of the Early Intervention programs offered. The result is more integrated and comprehensive educational plans that lead to successful spoken language outcomes.
DePaul provides free home-based services for families who qualify for early intervention services in the following counties: Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland.
Our certified Teachers of the Deaf have experience and specialized training in cochlear implant use and habilitation, hearing aid use, development of auditory skills, and development of spoken language. In addition, the home-based teachers are able to provide instruction in any communication modality preferred by the family including sign language. DePaul Teachers of the Deaf have a tremendous wealth of resources to share with families including: information about cochlear implants, troubleshooting cochlear implants and hearing aids, use of assistive technology such as FM systems, speech/language development, auditory development, literacy, physical and cognitive development, social communication skills, publications and websites related to hearing loss, and community resources.
