The primary goal of DePaul’s Toddler-Parent program is to combine the intensive, specialized intervention needed to develop spoken communication skills with fun and engaging activities appropriate for children ages 18 to 36 months.
Each child receives:
- Individual speech/language therapy with a Speech/Language Pathologist.
- Small group auditory and language learning sessions with a Certified Teacher of the Deaf.
- Additional group activities that target development of early literacy and social skills.
- The advantage of an on-site Audiologist that assists the teacher to ensure that each child is hearing to the best of his/her ability at all times.
Each family receives:
- Individual and small group education sessions.
- Opportunities to participate in classroom activities.
- Daily written notes regarding classroom activities.
- Regular opportunities to work with their child’s teachers to plan goals and review progress.
- Opportunities to participate in a parent support group.
- Support and encouragement from the DePaul staff.
- Access to an on-site Audiologist for help with cochlear implants, hearing aids, troubleshooting problems, and coordinating care with their child’s audiologist.
- Assistance with transition to preschool programs.
Beginner Toddler Class (approximate ages - 18 to 24 months)
- Attend group session 2 days per week for approximately 2 hours per day.
- Weekly parent-child-teacher session before or after class.
- Maximum class size: 4 children
Advanced Toddler Class (approximate ages - 24 to 36 months)
- Attend group session 2-4 days per week for 3 hours per day.
- Regular parent-child-teacher sessions scheduled on an individual basis.
- Maximum class size: 6 children
